Nalcor denies it tried to provide “hush money” to the Nunatsiavut Government after failing to provide capping at the Muskrat Falls reservoir site prior to flooding.
The allegation was made by President of the Nunatsiavut Government, Johannes Lampe. He says they were approached by Nalcor CEO Stan Marshall with funds he claims were meant to quiet their concerns about a lack of capping at the site.
Officials at Nalcor say it has been supporting and funding scientific research and ongoing monitoring at the site as requested by the provincial government. The funds are also used to support the work of the Independent Expert Advisory Committee.
Nalcor says Marshall met with representatives of Labrador’s three Indigenous groups in July to discuss ways funding originally set aside for wetland capping could be used to benefit Indigenous communities through health and social programming.
