The Gathering Place on Military Road marked its 25th anniversary yesterday with a garden party.
The executive director, Joanne Thompson, says 25 years is reason to celebrate. She says the Gathering Place is a safe place for vulnerable people in metro to meet, feel safe and receive services.

She says about 2,000 guests come through their doors each year. And, there are 20 volunteers for each of her 32 staff members.
Thompson says they need 150 volunteers to open their doors each day. She doesn’t know of any other place in Canada that operates with that many volunteers.
