Summer is a busy season for festivals in any community—and more festivals mean more people, more music and more noise.
Residents of downtown St. John’s learned exactly that during this year’s George Street Festival.
A number of complaints arose from residential areas of downtown St. John’s after loud music was playing late into the night from rooftop bars.
Corner Brook also had big events in their downtown this summer, including a street party similar in style to George Street Fest. Except there were no noise complaints.
Deputy Mayor Bill Griffin says working with residents is key. Griffen says letting residents know ahead of time, and sticking to the itinerary keeps people happy and avoids any surprises.
He says the street party went so well that they’re thinking of making it an annual event.
