The opposition says government has been unable to deliver on joint management of the fishery.
Fisheries Minister Byrne says the recent impasse between processors and harvesters could have been avoided had the province been at the table when decisions were made regarding this year’s caplin and cod fisheries.
Byrne previously indicated he intended to raise the matter with his federal counterpart, Jonathan Wilkinson, when he was in town earlier this week.
Critic Kevin Parsons accuses the minister of “talking out of both sides of his mouth.”
He says we don’t need bureaucrats in Ottawa making decisions on when the fisheries occur; we should be saying it ourselves.
