Cannabis use among Canadians has remained virtually unchanged since legalization, says a new Statistics Canada report.
The National Cannabis Survey found 16 per cent of Canadians above the age 15 have consumed cannabis in the past three months. That percentage remains virtually unchanged when compared to the same time last year, before legalization.
Nunavut had the highest rate of use at 32 per cent while Quebec had the lowest at 10 per cent. Use in Newfoundland and Labrador was the same as the Canadian average at 16 per cent.
Lighting up is still the most popular way to consume the substance—two thirds of users prefer to smoke cannabis compared to other methods.
The report also says men are almost twice as likely to use cannabis as women.
Men are also more likely to buy cannabis, whereas women tend to receive it from friends and family.
Statistics Canada tracks the numbers every three months.
