St. John’s City Council votes tonight on which of two proposed sites will be the new location for a new, modern Mews Centre.
The Mews Centre has been showing its age for some time, and the city has plans to replace it with a structure similar to the Paul Reynold’s Centre in the east end—albeit smaller.
Two sites have been proposed, one on the gravel lot immediately across from the current location, and the other, on the site of the soccer field in Mundy Pond Park, off Blacker Avenue.
While public opinion is leaning towards the second location, concerns remain.
City council is set to vote on the matter this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Mayor Danny Breen says while he needs to review all documentation and recommendations before he makes a final decision how he will be voting, he does admit the Blackler Avenue location stands out to him.
He says it is the option that makes the most sense.
