NAPE is sounding the alarm on what they call “troubling, inconsistent and incomplete” data on ambulance red alerts in the province.
A “Red Alert” happens when there are no ambulances available to respond to calls.
NAPE President Jerry Earle says the frequency and duration of red alerts, particularly in the Western and Labrador-Grenfell regions, were very troubling. He also highlights the Western and Central regions, where the information is incomplete, or not being tracked at all.
For example, at the White Bay Health Center—between the dates of January 1 and June 30, 2019—there were 210 hours of red alert logged, according to information released through ATIPPA.
Earle says the situation is putting additional stress on paramedics, who already have a difficult job, and says additional resources are badly needed.
He says the people of the province deserve better, and that the health authorities and government must work to address the situation. Earle says this cannot continue.
