A local realtor and photographer has donated more than 30,000 images and photographic negatives to The Rooms’ provincial archives.
Those negatives only represent a portion of Bob Crocker’s 40-year career as a professional photographer.
The Rooms reached out to Crocker due to the historical significance of his work.
Crocker, who is also a certified pilot, was able to capture images in the province’s history from some extraordinary viewpoints.
He was on location the last time the Concord took off from the St. John’s Airport. He photographed the iconic aircraft from a helicopter. He also captured the images of planes sitting on the runway at YYT from the tarmac during 9/11.
Crocker says just like salmon fishing, photography is about being at the right place at the right time. He says he is honoured and humbled that The Rooms reached out to him and gave him the opportunity to share his collection with future generations.
Crocker jokes that sorting through his digital collection will be the next challenge.
