“It’s too late, it’s done.”
That from Jenny Gear of Northwest River. Gear has been trying since 2016 to have her concerns heard in relation to flooding of the Muskrat Falls Reservoir. She met with MHA Perry Trimper last week to discuss her concerns.
Gear’s photos of the ongoing flooding at Muskrat Falls have been widely shared online, including photos of a tilt being removed from the flood waters. The shelter was there for years, containing the names of those who made use of it while working on the land. It’s considered by some to be a piece of local history, destroyed.
Gear says she spoke with MHA Perry Trimper about the Upper Churchill and the Lower Churchill, and how badly seeing the tilt removed disturbed her. She says overall the meeting went well, but “it’s too late.”
Gear understands the Liberals inherited the project from the PCs, but says they had $30-million to offer Indigenous groups, when it should have been spent clearing the reservoir.
