While the proposed annex to the Anglican Cathedral on Church Hill in downtown St. John’s is off the table for the time being, the Anglican Diocese does plan on revisiting the idea.
The city of St. John’s announced yesterday afternoon that the church had withdrawn its application, which had been mired in controversy since it was announced, mere hours before city council was expected to make a decision.
St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says the process up to this point has been frustrating as there were many regulations that had to be sorted out both at a provincial and federal level.
Breen commends the church for their decision to withdraw their application, which allows them to wipe the slate clean and start again. He suggested that before the church makes any decisions, all of the stakeholders in the application should sit down and get on the same page.
Breen says he is hoping all groups can get together sometime in September to talk about how to move forward.
