Opposition Leader Ches Crosbie wants the Auditor General to investigate why flooding of the Muskrat Falls reservoir began without wetland capping.
PC Leader Ches Crosbie says the reservoir was flooded in violation of an agreement with the Nunatsiavut Government and others that wetland capping would precede any such flooding.
$30-million was set aside for the project, but was offered instead to Indigenous groups in lieu of the capping. Crosbie says that should not have been.
Crosbie wants to know what happened. Today, he’s calling on the Public Accounts Committee to convene an urgent meeting, to trigger an investigation by the Auditor General. Crosbie wants the AG to find out how the failure occurred and report back.
He’s asking all seven Public Accounts Committee members—including four Liberals, two PCs and an NDP—to “do the right thing,” and call for this independent investigation.
