It may come as a shock to some, but the President of the Registered Nurses Union says there is a higher incidence of violence against nurses, than there are against those in the policing and corrections professions.
Debbie Forward was responding to a recent blog post by an ER nurse who outlines the abuse she’s endured in the health care system.
Forward says it’s an ongoing problem and violence should not be tolerated in any work place.
She says no one has the right, regardless of whether they’re drunk, under the influence of drugs or in pain to swear at, hit, punch, spit on or kick another person.
Forward says violent behaviour is against the law and it’s not for the system to decide that it’s okay for one person to hit you while it’s not okay for someone else to do it.
