A Glovertown business is set to begin delivering fresh local turkey to the market by Christmas.
Cindy Chaulk of Chaulk’s Heritage Farms says they’ve always dabbled in raising poultry in a smaller backyard operation, but decided to expand business with the closure of Noel’s Turkey Farm in Freshwater, Carbonear.
She says they will have a processing facility to allow them to raise the turkeys, slaughter and process them all on the same site.
Chaulk says their operation won’t be as big as Noel’s but they are excited about the expansion. She says a lot of work has gone into the venture.
She says some of the turkeys will be delivered and they’re working on getting some of the birds on store shelves at Coleman’s.
Their first lot of 2,600 turkeys will be ready for market come December.
