Traffic enforcement officials warn of the dangers of distracted driving, yet people still can’t seem to resist checking their phones, even when it doesn’t make sense to do so.
Psychologist Dr. Janine Hubbard says the compulsion to check your phone can be quite strong, leaning towards addiction in some cases.
She says an over-reliance on phones would be a good term to use.
Dr. Hubbard says studies have shown that notifications can do more than simply let you know there’s a message waiting for you. She says it can release dopamine into the brain, one of the feel-good neurotransmitters.
