After 25 years of answering the phone at Jiffy Cabs, Rod “Cocker” Dunn is hanging up for the last time.
With 39 years as a dispatcher under his belt, the legend behind the memorable number ‘722-2222’ says he has heard from people on their best and their worst days.
In his career at Jiffy, Dunn has answered an estimated 11.75 million calls for service which is around 900 calls per shift. He says he barely stopped talking for an entire 12 hour shift.
Dunn cannot believe the response he has received after the announcement of his retirement. He has been given gifts and many phone calls – and not just from people looking for cabs.
He has had calls from people in Australia and places all over the country wishing him well and to hear him say those two words.
He has been opening presents from callers between dispatches. Some callers today are not calling for rides, they want to hear Dunn say “Jiffy Caaaaabs” @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/u1xESZkfOw

Two women showed up at the Jiffy Cabs headquarters on Saturday afternoon to give Dunn a farewell gift. He did not ask for their names but he did ask where they lived. Addresses are something he remembers well, he says.
He says he is familiar with almost every nook and cranny in the city.
Although it is the end of his dispatch career, he says he will not be a total stranger to Jiffy customers. He plans to take a couple of shifts a week as a cab driver.
