Most people would consider driving across Canada a long trip but one relocated Newfoundlander decided that he would make the trip on his unicycle.
Dave Cox, originally from St. John’s is now living in Toronto.
He says he’s always wanted to cross the country on his own power and he doesn’t own a bicycle so he is making the 9,000 kilometre trip on his unicycle.
Cox started his solo trip on May 9th. He started his trip in Victoria, B.C. at Mile Zero and will end it at Mile One, he says it’s the longest mile of his life.
Cox has been on the road for more than three months and is hoping to arrive in St. John’s on September 1st. He made it to the island this week and is currently making his way across from the west coast.
Cox says if you spot him, please stop and say hello. He finds a friendly chat is helpful, especially if he’s having a hard day. But he adds, please don’t honk your car horns because they are quite loud.
Cox plans on celebrating his arrival in the capital city with his partner who is flying in from Toronto to meet him and a bottle of champagne at Cape Spear.
