The Gulf ferries to and from Newfoundland are doing some heavy juggling amid rough weather and peak demand.
It is Labour Day Weekend—one of the busiest times of the year for Marine Atlantic—but because of post-tropical storm Erin, they have had to cancel the crossings between Port Aux Basques and North Sydney tonight and tomorrow morning.
However, company spokesperson Darrell Mercer says the Argentia run is not affected by the weather system. It leaves at suppertime today and people can ride at the same cost as the Port aux Basques-North Sydney run.
He says quite a few people have taken them up on the offer of travelling via Argentia instead of the shorter option. They do not know how long it will take to clear up the backlog.
