Police are suspecting distracted driving has played a major role following a number of collisions on the Burin Peninsula over the past week.
RCMP officers have upped their presence along Route 210, hoping to curb the high number of recent crashes.
So far today, RCMP have responded to three collisions: one involved a moose, another when a family left the road in a single-vehicle crash, and the third was a rollover. There were no serious injuries reported.
Two recent reports involved drivers causing collisions when their vehicles drifted over the center line. Weather and road conditions were favourable at the time. Police are also reviewing factors like distracted driving, speeding, or tired drivers.
Meanwhile, on Thursday morning at around 8:30 a.m. police stopped a 61-year-old man from Marystown for excessive speeding as he caught doing 146 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.
His vehicle was seized for three days, his licence suspended and was handed charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
The RCMP is asking drivers to use caution while driving this Labour Day weekend and everyday to ensure their safety and the safety of all others on the roads.
