Some people that chose to stay in the city rather than go camping this weekend were rewarded with the first annual African Roots Festival.
The festival took place Saturday on Ridge Road in St. John’s and featured music, dance, food and activities for young and old.
I’m at 65 Ridge Road, Ecole des Grand-Vents for the first African Roots Festival, SARFest. Madeline just got the first glitter tattoo of the day!

Navel Sarr is the founder of the event. He is originally from Senegal, West Africa.
Sarr recruited a friend of his who lives in Montreal to come to the event to perform and offer a workshop on how to play the Dembje drum.
His friend Zale Seck, is a big name in the music scene in Senegal.
They met in Montreal years ago and when Seck heard what Sarr was planning he wanted to be a part of it.
