Screen time is one of the main reasons why Canadians are not spending as much time outdoors, says the Nature Conservancy of Canada, but having a smart phone with you while outside is recommended.
Andrew Holland, spokesperson with the organization, says summer may be coming to an end but the weather is still perfect for outdoor activities like hiking and bird watching.
When it comes to these activities, although they are great to disconnect, having a cell phone on hand is best.
He says bring your phone in case you get lost and always tell someone how long you will be.
He says taking photos is another reason to bring a smart phone but make sure you follow safe wilderness practices while doing so.
He says stick to the trails, pick up after yourself and leave no trace.
