The Green Party candidate for the Avalon district is raising the alarm about food safety following a Japanese parliamentary report on recent testing showing toxins in the human body.
Greg Malone says the results were alarming.
He says the hair is tested for long-term contaminants in the body. A number of Japanese MPs were tested and horrified to find that they had high levels of pesticides in their bodies, particularly Glyphosate.
The herbicide Glyphosate is used to kill weeds and grasses and is heavily used on North American wheat.
Malone says the herbicide has been banned in some other jurisdictions and it’s time for the Canadian government to take action. He says there’s been a spike in instances of ADHD and Autism since Glyphosate started being used in greater quantities in the 1990s, although no direct link has been made.
The Japanese Parliament has called a parliamentary commission to look at food safety and food supply.
