Impoundment of the Muskrat Falls reservoir has been completed.
In a release late yesterday afternoon, Nalcor confirmed water levels would be at normal operating levels by the end of the day.
From this point forward, levels in the reservoir will be between 38.5 and 39 meters.
Flooding of the reservoir began in early August.
Meanwhile, the MHA for Torngat Mountains, Lela Evans, is holding firm on her belief that the reservoir flooding will have dire effects for the people of Labrador.
Evans says when the province did a partial impoundment of the site conditions in the area were much more favorable. The area had already been washed from spring runoff, this time it has not, which she says will result in more methylmercury being released.
Evans says flooding should have never have gone ahead without the proper mitigation measures in place and says calls it a failure on government’s part.
