Stephenville-Bay St. George is on stand by for another possible evacuation in the area today.

Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre is near the water and in an area that is prone to storm surges.

Mayor Lisa Lucas says the home does have an evacuation plan in place and will act on it if necessary. She says there is at least a couple of hundred residents at the Level 2 and 3 care home.

She says the centre’s evacuation centre is a building near the College of the North Atlantic in Bay St. George. The college has back up generators the residents would need in case of a power outage.

The breakwater across from the centre was altered last year with storms like post tropical storm Dorian in mind.

She says the town had work completed on the breakwater area because they have had storm surges in past that led to water over the highway.
