Parking has long been an issue in the capital city’s downtown, but one heritage expert says a recent focus on parking is affecting the historic fabric of the area.
The Executive Director of the province’s Heritage Foundation says newer builds need to better reflect the historic fabric of the downtown.
Jerry Dick says architects should keep in mind that buildings need to fit in. He says some of the buildings on Harbour Drive in the city’s downtown are not welcoming, and contain way too many parking areas.
He says trying to make things easier for vehicles is affecting the historic fabric of the downtown.
He says hosting public engagement sessions on the topic could be a step in the right direction.
