Lester’s Farm Market is speaking out about being shut out by the St. John’s Farmers’ Market.
Farmer Chris Lester told VOCM Morning Show co-host Gerri Lynn Mackey that they’re considered “too big.”
He says in 2018 they were told they could be there, but it’s his understanding that other vendors complained and they haven’t been allowed back since.
While they don’t dispute the competition with other emerging farmers, Lester says they still believe there’s a place for their produce at the Farmers’ Market.
They acknowledge not having them there gives new farmers an opportunity to launch their businesses, but dispute not being allowed at the market when there are few or no other farmers selling their wares.
