The provincial government is finalizing legal documents to move along financial assistance to relocate the permanent residents of Little Bay Islands.
The full-time residents voted 100 per cent in favour of relocation, and have signed option agreements for financial relocation assistance.
The provincial government is providing $8.7-million for the relocation, meaning that ferry service, roads maintenance and power supply will come to an end.
That’s expected to result in some $20-million in government savings over a 20-year period.
The official relocation date is December 31, 2019.
