A new service to provide up-to-date information to help both residents and tourists scan the roadways before travelling is now available.
NL 511 is a new smartphone app, website and phone number with information on driving conditions, construction updates, highway cameras, major incidents, ferry status updates, weather and more.
The province’s 511 app, website and phone line is now available for use.
On it you can find highway conditions, construction reports, plow tracker, ferry schedules, weather, road cameras, a radar and more.

It falls in line with the national 511 network, working the same as other provinces like Nova Scotia—you can even go and look at other 511 sites to see conditions in other provinces if needed.
The app is free and can be customized to display specific features and to receive notifications for updates on highways they use frequently.
For example, here is all of the different construction happening around the province (it’s a lot) but it only includes provincially owned roadways.
You can click them and find specific details about the construction.

For example, during winter storms portions of the highway may be seen as blinking to indicate reduced visibility.
Telenium Inc was awarded a $685,000 contract over five years to provide the service.
Transportation Minister, Steve Crocker says while the information is readily accessible on smartphones, they encourage everyone who uses the app to use it wisely and drive responsibly.
