The English Language School District is introducing a pilot project that will see the elimination of final exams in Grades seven, eight and nine in favor of more frequent assessment and evaluation throughout the year.
The pilot project was the topic of discussion at the Board of Trustees meeting held last weekend.
The school district last year introduced a similar pilot project to explore alternatives to mid-year exams. 38 schools signed up at the time.
Schools will have to get the approval of staff and school councils to participate and will be able to “opt in” or “opt out” at any point over the three year trial period.
The district will monitor outcomes to determine if there’s a positive impact on student outcomes.
