Officials warned there would be delays, and there have been delays.

The province has closed a portion of the Trans Canada to replace massive culverts in the area of the Avondale Access.

Traffic is being rerouted down the Avondale Access and along the Conception Bay Highway to Holyrood.

Some drivers have reported delays of up to an hour or more depending on how heavy the traffic is.

Highway officials hope to partially reopen the TCH at 6:00 Tuesday morning.
