Timothy Hackett, 45, of English Harbour East is facing a long list of charges after he was apprehended following a reported carjacking and assault in Clarenville yesterday. The arrest came after a dramatic series of events.
Clarenville RCMP noticed the stolen vehicle on the Trans Canada yesterday afternoon shortly after the reported carjacking. Police tried to pull the vehicle over, but it failed to stop.
The vehicle turned onto the Burin Peninsula Highway, and rather than engage in a high-speed chase, Burin Peninsula RCMP were informed that the vehicle was heading in their direction.
It was spotted numerous times by officers with both the Clarenville and Burin Peninsula Detachments, and eventually found abandoned near the Monkstown exit where the driver tried to escape on foot.
Police Service Dog Grinch tracked the man down and he was found hiding in some bushes. The vehicle was recovered.
Timothy Hackett is facing a number of charges including robbery with violence, assault, dangerous driving, break and enter into a residence, possession of stolen property, and various breaches.
