Almost 1,300 people pulled up stakes and left Newfoundland and Labrador in the first quarter of this year.
Two of the three territories saw a decrease in their population—both the Yukon and the Northwest Territories—however, Newfoundland and Labrador was the only province that saw a decrease.

The population at the end of 2018 was 525,073 but that went down to 523,790 by the end of March, according to figures released today by Statistics Canada.
They expect the number to drop by over a thousand by the end of the first half of this year.
Nationally, our population increase by over 98,000 people in the first quarter due primarily to a sustained inflow of immigrants. Canada’s population now tops the 37-million mark.
Stats Canada says the country’s population growth in future will rely heavily on immigration.
