A black bear warning has been issued for the area of Snook’s Harbour after several reports of sightings recently surfaced.
Conservation officers are investigating the presence of the animal, and have set a trap in hopes of relocating the bear.
Officials caution that wild animals can be unpredictable and dangerous. Residents should take steps to avoid attracting a bear to one’s property.
If you encounter a black bear, remain calm and avoid eye contact. Quietly back away from the area, but never run.
Any bear sightings in the area should be reported to the Forestry and Wildlife office in Clarenville at 709-466-7439 or the 24-hour emergency line at 709-427-0437.
