Watermain Break Could Have Been Deadly, says Driver
A woman whose mini van was propelled airborne Friday morning from the force of the watermain break on Allandale Road says somebody could have been killed.
Tara Mavin had dropped her three children off at daycare and was on her way to work when all of a sudden her vehicle was moving through the air. She managed to maintain control but got quite the jolt and is stiff and sore.
Mavin says it was the scariest moment of her life, especially thinking that her kids could easily have been with her.
She says that is what scares her the most, that it could have been anybody or anyone’s kids. She was screeching when she pulled over and was thinking that she had ruined the van.
Some residents have expressed concerns with silt seen flowing into the river system following yesterday’s break. Deptuy Manager of Public Works with the city of St. John’s Lynnann Winsor says the bigger concern is chlorine.
She says they’re lucky that the river is further down the road, and the chlorine dissipated by the time it hit the river.
