Newfoundland and Labrador leads the country in the number of women involved in the skilled trades.
The provincial government and Trades NL have been actively involved in recruiting more women into the skilled trades.
Trades NL Executive Director, Darin King, says this province is a leader in the country, but there’s still a long way to go.
He says until six months ago, women in the NL skilled trades made up between 15 and 16 per cent of the overall workforce. While that number is still quite low, and they’re working to improve that, it was the highest percentage in the country.
