Two brothers from Ottawa arrived in St. John’s this morning after a unique ride across Canada on wooden bikes.
Zac and Nick Wagman began the journey in Victoria, B.C. in May and arrived in St. John’s just as National Forest Week begins.
The wooden bikes are symbols of their belief in the need for a green economy. They believe there will be more wooden bikes in the future as the wood absorbs some of the vibrations and gives a more comfortable ride.
They labeled it the “green ride for green jobs.” They’re promoting “Project Learning Tree.” Zac says even they did not realize the amount of forestland in the country.
He says he did not realize that for three of the four months, they would be riding through forestland.
