The Mayor of Lewisporte says plans for a liquid fuel production facility have been “under wraps” for ten months.
Betty Clarke says the town has been in conversation with UK-based Synergy World Energy for the facility and conversations are underway with the provincial government.
Clarke says the company plans to roll out the project in three phases that require a deep water port.
She says now that the Labrador ferry service is no longer coming into Lewisporte, they’re now in discussions with the provincial government to secure the wharf and associated infrastructure.
Clarke says the plan is to bring in plastics from all over the world and convert it to energy, which she says will be sold to the grid.
She says the town of Grand Falls-Windsor is trying to secure a new data centre, which will require added power. Clarke says the extra power could be supplied by the facility in Lewisporte.
