It’s the first agreement in principle of its kind in the province’s professional sports history.
The Newfoundland Growlers and St. John’s Edge Basketball Club have announced an agreement in principle for a ten-year lease extension for the use of Mile One Centre through the 2029-2030 season.

The teams told reporters today that St. John’s Sports and Entertainment will manage Mile One and the Convention Centre.
Growlers president and CEO Dean MacDonald had planned to put together an offer to purchase Mile One.

The owner of the Edge, Irwin Simon, joined today’s news conference via telephone. The team averaged 3800 per game last year and he hopes to see that number grow on the strength of the Raptors NBA championship.
He says having Glenn “Big Baby” Davis has not gone unnoticed by other former NBA players.
With the extended lease, the Growlers and Edge will bring close to 60 nights of entertainment per year to Mile One.
Breen says 10-years is a good horizon to look out for in any business. They can see in that 10-year window and they never contemplated going any longer.
