A recent report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information shows Newfoundland and Labrador as one of the provinces with the most physicians per 100,000 Canadians.
Despite recent complaints and information on lack of physicians in the province, the Canadian Institute for Health Information’s latest study shows an increase in the number of doctors in the country, and Newfoundland and Labrador is above average.
In Canada, there are around 240 physicians for every 100,000 Canadians. In this province, there are about 270.
Newfoundland and Labrador had the second largest number of internationally-trained physicians at 38 per cent.
In 2018, there were almost 90,000 physicians in the entire country with a total gross clinical payment to physicians at $27.4-billion in 2017-2018, up 3.9 per cent from the year prior.
