Chopping, slicing and dicing can be daunting for anyone not overly comfortable in a kitchen, but imagine how difficult it might be for the blind or partially-sighted.
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind is offering a cooking class to help hone those skills.
Kelly Picco is the Program Lead with the CNIB. She says the class is being run by a volunteer who worked as a chef in Montreal and approached them with an idea.
He was interested in teaching people who are blind or partially sighted to chop, dice and prepare a meal safely and efficiently.
Picco says he can verbally explain how to hold a knife and at what angle to get the best technique and stay safe. Paticipants also have the added bonus of learning how to cook meals that are varied and exciting.
The cooking class is scheduled for Sunday, October 6th at the Sobey’s on Kelsey Drive.
