People who provide laundry services at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home in St. John’s today protested changes which they say will result in job losses and a lower quality of service to the residents.
CUPE says items such as bed sheets and linens will be shipped to Central Laundry in Pleasantville. The union says eight jobs will be lost.
CUPE President, Sherry Hillier, says the laundry services have been part of the nursing home for decades and this proposed change will result in approximately 8 full-time positions. @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/dBAt6epknh

Residents’ clothing will still be done at St. Pat’s but CUPE President Sherry Hillier says that is not a good setup.
She predicts that items belonging to residents—even though they’re marked—will go missing, including their clothing, hearing aids, glasses and other items.
