Police have charged two people in connection with the violent death of a cat in Port aux Basques last month.

RCMP say 51-year-old Peter Rossiter of O’Regan’s and 38-year-old Jody Anderson of Cape Ray are scheduled to return to court in December on charges of injuring or endangering an animal, and of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on September 10 and was reported to police on September 14.

Reports from the community indicate the cat was allegedly killed with an axe.

Both accused have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in court in December.
