Residents of Happy Valley-Goose Bay are being asked to use caution, and take steps to avoid attracting wildlife into the town.
That, as conservation officers track the movements of a wolf near the community.
It’s a familiar call to action, but one of great importance as the Department of Land Resources says wildlife that grow accustomed to human food sources often lose their fear of people.
The remains of a dog were recently located in the town, which officials say were consistent with a wolf kill. Signage has been posted in parts of the town, advising people to stay away from areas where the wolf may frequent.
The department is urging people to properly store garbage to avoid attracting animals. Pet owners should also keep their animals indoors or in confined areas.
Officials say that conservation officers have focused their search for the wolf and are taking “appropriate action.”
