The Canada Border Services Agency says scammers have been posing as agency officials to collect personal information.
The agency says it has become aware of ongoing fraudulent attempts to trick people into giving up social insurance numbers and credit card information.
While the tactics used may vary, the scam is designed to lure sensitive information from victims.
Telephone calls may display an official-looking name and number, or emails may contain CBSA logos. However, the agency says it will never initiate a request for social insurance or credit card numbers by phone or email.
Anyone receiving such a request should hang up, and report the attempt to the appropriate authorities, such as the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
