The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is requesting an independent agency be called in to oversee the investigation of a fatal crash in Corner Brook last night.
Around 9:30 p.m. police attempted to pull over a vehicle on Main Street, but the driver did not stop. A short time later, the vehicle was discovered by the officer to have crashed into a house on Lower Caribou Road.
The lone occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital, but later died from his injuries.
As is typical when an officer is present at an accident where serious injury or death occurs, RNC requested the Department of Justice and Public Safety engage an independent agency to oversee the investigation.
