A provincial cabinet minister who represents the west coast is applauding suggestions that the fixed link may some day become reality.
The concept, entertained off and on for decades, has been raised again during the federal election campaign.
Fisheries and Lands Minister Gerry Byrne, not surprisingly, supports the idea.
He says the federal Liberal Party platform proposal is being termed a nation-building transportation project, which means Ottawa will do it with federal resources, with no cost to users.
Byrne says he’s been assured there will be no reduction in services at Marine Atlantic.
