Two men were trapped on the roof of a blazing home before fire crews arrived this morning.
St. John’s Regional got the call at around 5:15 this morning and moments later were at a home on Spencer Street belching smoke and flame.
Two of the four residents got out safely but the other two were trapped on the roof of the two-storey building before firefighters were able to raise an extension ladder and get them to safety. Platoon Chief Bob Hiscock says one of the men was overcome from smoke inhalation and treated at the scene.

There was extensive damage to the home. Spencer Street, just off Merrymeeting, was closed to traffic as crews fought the blaze and cleared up afterwards.
