Don’t look now, but the top energy executive in the province sees a day in the not-too-distant future when Newfoundland and Labrador will be doing another hydro mega-project despite the disastrous Muskrat Falls.
Nalcor CEO Stan Marshall told the rate mitigation hearings yesterday that the costs are “hard wired” and have to be paid for by customers so there is not a lot of room for mitigation.
Marshall says Gull Island will be done, but not until power purchase contracts are in place. Power would be shipped through Quebec.
Marshall says there are very few sites left of substantial hydro energy but the biggest and best is Gull Island, and a lot of work has been on it.
