Today was an exciting day for the students and staff of St. Peter’s Elementary in Upper Island Cove.
The school’s new public park was officially opened this morning.
School Principal John Drover says the new playground has been a long time coming. It’s been more than 30 years since children in the community had a play space associated with the school. He calls it an emotional time.
Drover says it was all made possible through fundraising, donations from corporate sponsors and the Aviva Community Fund.
He says Hickman Auto Group set the momentum by challenging them to raise $25,000. They won the Aviva community fund content, raising another $10,000 for a total of $73,000.
