The West Aquarius project is being deemed a success story by those in the industry.
James Nunnery, rig manager for the West Aquarius with Seadrill Canada, says they achieved their goals for the project in all but one area.
The West Aquarius, which will drill off Newfoundland for ExxonMobil, has been on drydock at Bull Arm. Nunnery shared his story with delegates at the NOIA fall seminar at the St. John’s Convention Centre on Thursday.
Nunnery says all the work on the drill rig was done in Newfoundland, which posed some challenges. One thing which stands out was seeing the rig going into the harbour at Bull Arm.
He says they set the project in stages and when they achieved the thruster changeout on target and on budget, their goals were set.
There was one workplace accident in which a worker suffered two broken fingers, but he says they learned from that.
