A beer first brewed in Golden, Colorado, in 1873 is being re-branded and re-launched—and Newfoundland and Labrador has been chosen as the first spot to brew the new beer.
Coors Banquet, sold in a well-known golden can, has been renamed Coors Original. The beer is being brewed in St. John’s first—the only place in North America outside of the “Golden Brewery”—meaning those in this province can enjoy it before anyone else.
Brewmaster David Reddy says they thought St. John’s was a great place to start, thanks to the solid market. It will be sold nationwide coming out of Toronto in the new year.
As a brewmaster, Reddy says it’s a huge honour to brew such a historic beer.
Reddy says it’s a great feeling getting to make the product themselves, as when Coors Banquet first came out, there was a lot of buzz.
He says it was an exciting challenge to match the quality of the original product, and he believes they did a great job.
